Gluten Free Social 2011

Wow!   Where to even begin telling you about our gluten free social!  We had such a great turnout.   We had people come from Chattanooga, TN, Huntsville, AL, Montgomery, AL, and South AL.  It made us feel so good to know that people were so excited about our event that they would make such a trip.  The comments we received were just amazing!   It was wonderful to see all the kids who are gluten free, that they were able to eat what they wanted without any worries!   Everyone we talked to said it was worth the trip!  Thank you all for coming!  Thank you so much to Rebecca, director of the Birmingham Celiac Support Group for coming up with the idea and getting us a place to host this event!
We had AMAZING response from vendors who wanted to participate and send us samples.  I want to thank each one of them so much!
Everyone signed in when they arrived and were welcomed by a table of information pamphlets, coupons, magazines, and vendor information.  Then they went from table to table gathering samples to take home and try, also we made many things available for tasting there.   I made Bob’s Red Mill brownies and vanilla cupcakes which were a total hit!  Also, I made chocolate chip cookies from Jules Gluten Free cookie mix…oh my!  Just like the “real” deal!  I had not tried her mixes before but I was sold!  Whole Foods was so fabulous to send us 4 trays of muffins, cookies, scones, breads, and fruit.  Moes outdid themselves!  They sent enough food to feed so many people!  It was all so gluten free and delicious!  Their staff set up, stayed and served then cleaned up afterward.  They were very informative and professional- Thanks MoesCalifornia Pizza kitchen was also fabulous to send their staff with their gluten free salad for us to try.  Yum!  Organic Harvest, our local specialty grocery sent their representative, Carolyn, to answer questions for people about the products they carry.  She also brought some yummy food samples from their cafe  which serves gluten free food.  We were excited to also have Melanie, from Healthy Life and Nutrition, a local nutritionist available to answer questions.  The highlight for many was Mary Frances, local gluten free blogger and owner of Gluten Free Cooking School gave several cooking demonstrations giving great ideas for Super Bowl party snacks.
